Feb. 13, 2019 – Journalists at BuzzFeed News have signed on to a union organizing efforts and are seeking voluntary recognition from Editor-in-Chief Ben Smith, they announced yesterday. The editorial staff will be affiliated with the NewsGuild of New York CWA Local 31003, a chapter of The NewsGuild-CWA. Journalists of Hartford Courant announce union organizing campaign

Feb. 11, 2019 – Journalists of the award-winning Hartford Courant have taken a major step toward forming a union, the Hartford Courant Guild, part of The NewsGuild-CWA.

Organizers for the union filed a petition for a union election with the National Labor Relations Board Monday and requested voluntary recognition from Tribune Publishing, the paper’s parent company. Hartford, Conn. – Journalists of the award-winning Hartford Courant took a major step Monday toward forming a union, the Hartford Courant Guild, part of The NewsGuild-CWA.

New York Magazine staffers secure voluntary recognition of their union

Feb. 1, 2019 – After a card check conducted by the American Arbitration Association on Wednesday, editorial employees of New York Magazine were certified to be represented by the NewsGuild of New York/CWA Local 31003.

The bargaining unit consists of approximately 180 full- and part-time editorial staffers, comprising the print and web staff of New York Media and all of its respective verticals — Vulture, the Cut, Intelligencer, Grub Street, and the Strategist. Mic Union to Management: We Are Watching

Jan. 22, 2019 – It’s been over a month since Mic and Bustle Digital Group (BDG) abruptly laid off more than 100 hardworking reporters, editors, filmmakers, graphic artists and support staff. Mic’s sudden shutdown confirmed our long-held suspicions that management had been repeatedly and consistently misleading employees, investors, and the public, when asked about the company’s financial state, the surety of deals with distributed media platforms, and other factors that culminated in the company’s closure.

Since Mic’s closure, it’s become apparent that Mic and Bustle management are in cahoots, repurposing and posting unfinished content produced by laid-off, unionized workers, often without their consent. TNG sector conference to focus on organizing
