Wyoming journalists to unionize to ‘protect legacy as essential public trust’

Feb. 12, 2020 – The journalists of the Wyoming Tribune Eagle are forming a unit of The NewsGuild-CWA, they announced on Feb. 11. Southern Poverty Law Center Staff Vote to Unionize

The SPLC Union Organizing Committee is excited to announce that its effort to unionize the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has prevailed. On December 16, 2019, the National Labor Relations Board conducted a ballot count. A majority of staff across 11 offices in five states and Washington D.C. voted in favor of representation by the Washington-Baltimore News Guild. Staff of Southern Poverty Law Center wins union vote

The outcome is a victory for organizing in the south.

Dec. 18, 2019 – The staff of the Southern Poverty Law Center won union recognition by a vote of 142-45 on Dec. 16, racking up an important victory for labor organizing in the south. The bargaining unit will encompass staffers across 11 SPLC offices in five states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi) and Washington D.C.
