Staff of NBC News Digital Win Union by a Vote of 90-40

NewsGuild of New York certified as bargaining representative of 150 employees at the digital news division

Dec. 13, 2019 – New York — Editorial employees of NBC News Digital won certification of their union after a vote count at the National Labor Relations Board in Manhattan Friday afternoon. With the winning vote of 90-40, the 150-person staff joins the NewsGuild of New York, TNG-CWA Local 31003. The new bargaining unit includes reporters, video journalists, editors, social media strategists, designers, and editorial staff from nbcnews.com, today.com, StayTuned, msnbc.com, and NBC News Now. Despite management’s vicious anti-union campaign, journalists of Arizona Republic win overwhelming victory

Oct. 11, 2019 – In a historic vote, newsroom employees at The Arizona Republic voted 64 to 30 to unionize as part of the NewsGuild-CWA on Oct. 10.

Journalists at The Columbian announce union organizing campaign

Sept. 30, 2019 – Journalists at The Columbian newspaper have announced plans to unionize as The Columbian Guild.

An overwhelming majority of reporters, photographers, copy editors, designers and editorial assistants have signed cards indicating their support for the effort. The Columbian Guild will join the Pacific Northwest Newspaper Guild – Local 37082 of The NewsGuild, a sector of the Communications Workers of America. Feb. 13, 2019 – Journalists at BuzzFeed News have signed on to a union organizing efforts and are seeking voluntary recognition from Editor-in-Chief Ben Smith, they announced yesterday. The editorial staff will be affiliated with the NewsGuild of New York CWA Local 31003, a chapter of The NewsGuild-CWA.
