Workers of Mashable, PCMag and AskMen walk off the Job; Digital Rally set for 12:30 p.m. EDT

Journalists at Ziff Davis publications — Mashable, PCMag and AskMen — walked off the job for 24 hours on Thursday to protest the company’s failure to agree to a living wage for all employees and to demand that management bargain in good faith.

NewsGuild members at The New Yorker, Pitchfork, and Ars Technica voted — with 98 percent support — to approve a strike if negotiations with management of their publications and their parent company, Condé Nast, break down further. The vote came on March 26 after years of contentious negotiations for first contracts at each outlet.

After years of stalled contract talks, workers at The New Yorker, Pitchfork and Ars Technica vote to authorize a strike

After two and a half years of unproductive contract talks, NewsGuild members at The New Yorker, Pitchfork, and Ars Technica announced Friday that they have voted — with 98 percent support — to approve a strike if negotiations with management of their publications and their parent company, Condé Nast, break down further.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Toledo Blade workers: We won’t back down!

New Yorker Union pay study finds gender, racial pay gap

A pay study by The New Yorker Union found a gender pay gap that especially affects women of color at the magazine. The study was based on information provided by the publication’s owner, Condé Nast, in September 2020. It was conducted as the union prepared to present pay proposals to management during bargaining for a first contract.

Blue Ridge NewsGuild members ratify first contract

April 24, 2020 – Members of the Blue Ridge NewsGuild, which represents journalists at the Daily Progress in Charlottesville, Va., voted 14-0 to ratify a first contract with Lee Enterprises, the union announced on Friday. The collective bargaining agreement is the first in the paper’s 127-year history. “A new era at the paper begins now,” the union declared. L.A. Times journalists ratify groundbreaking first contract

Oct. 31, 2019 – Journalists of the Los Angeles Times voted 388 to 3 on Thursday to ratify the first collective bargaining agreement in the newsroom’s 138-year history. The contract will dramatically improve the quality of life for the journalists who produce The Times as well as help lift standards across the media industry. Continue reading “L.A.
