New Yorker Magazine gives recognition to new unit of NY NewsGuild
After roughly a month, the New Yorker agreed to the Guild’s request for voluntary recognition. The NewsGuild of NY will now proceed to negotiation of a first contract for the group.

The newsroom staff of the Times-Union in Jacksonville, Florida has announced it is unionizing with the help of The NewsGuild-CWA. They are proud of their product, but are demanding that management acknowledge the role they play in creating award-winning journalism. They also have stated that having a union contract will force their owners, GateHouse Media, to deal directly with their employees. Editorial Staff of The New Republic Signs on to Union Effort
April 16, 2018 – An overwhelming majority of editorial employees of The New Republic has signed on to a union organizing effort and has asked management to recognize the NewsGuild of New York, NewsGuild-CWA Local 31003, as their local union, organizers have announced.
The 12-person staff of the 104-year old magazine is joining a growing movement of journalists seeking union representation. Last week employees at the Chicago Tribune announced a union organizing campaign and since January journalists at the L.A. Milwaukee Guild Ratifies MOA
September 2017 – Members of the Milwaukee Guild ratified a Memorandum of Agreement in July that permits the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (MJS) to use content generated by a suburban weekly, Community News (CN), and awards union representation of CN employees to the Guild. Workers at M+R Vote to Unionize
Sept. 21, 2017 – Workers at M+R Strategic Services had hoped the company would voluntarily recognize their union, but when the consulting company refused, they persisted.
