Journalists of the Daily Progress vote 12 to 1 to form Blue Ridge Guild

Oct. 30, 2019 – The journalists of the Daily Progress in Charlottesville, VA, voted 12 to 1 to form the Blue Ridge Guild on Wednesday.

The vote via secret ballot came two weeks after The Daily Progress staffers announced their intention to form a union, which will allow employees to collectively bargain with BH Media Group, the publication’s owner since 2012. Despite management’s vicious anti-union campaign, journalists of Arizona Republic win overwhelming victory

Oct. 11, 2019 – In a historic vote, newsroom employees at The Arizona Republic voted 64 to 30 to unionize as part of the NewsGuild-CWA on Oct. 10.

As GateHouse-Gannett Merger Looms, Guild Takes Message to GateHouse Readers: Preserve Local News

Oct. 10, 2019 – The NewsGuild-CWA is takings its campaign to “Preserve Local News” to readers on Thursday as it distributes flyers outside more than 50 GateHouse newspapers across 14 states.

The flyers decry GateHouse Media’s aggressive program of layoffs and cost-cutting as the company prepares for a potential merger with the Gannett Corp. GateHouse says there will be up to $300 million in additional cuts and “synergies” following the merger. Providence Local Seeks Administrator

Oct. 9, 2019 – The Providence Newspaper Guild, a local of The NewsGuild-CWA, is looking for an administrator to work with union members at six locations in New England. The administrator will answer questions about contract rights, file grievances, prepare arbitration cases to enforce members’ rights, and prepare for contract negotiations. The position involves working with members, conducting bargaining surveys, drafting proposals and working with the bargaining committee. It also entails working community and political action centers to advocate for our members.
