Despite management’s vicious anti-union campaign, journalists of Arizona Republic win overwhelming victory

Oct. 11, 2019 – In a historic vote, newsroom employees at The Arizona Republic voted 64 to 30 to unionize as part of the NewsGuild-CWA on Oct. 10.

My name is John Hill. I’m a recently retired reporter of 39 years and former president of the Providence (R.I.) Newspaper Guild, a local that includes three GateHouse papers. During my time in Providence, the Journal was sold twice. Journalists at The Columbian announce union organizing campaign

Sept. 30, 2019 – Journalists at The Columbian newspaper have announced plans to unionize as The Columbian Guild.

An overwhelming majority of reporters, photographers, copy editors, designers and editorial assistants have signed cards indicating their support for the effort. The Columbian Guild will join the Pacific Northwest Newspaper Guild – Local 37082 of The NewsGuild, a sector of the Communications Workers of America. Job Opening at NewsGuild: Organizing Campaign Lead

Sept. 23, 2019 – Media employees at print and digital publications around the country are organizing in record numbers. Journalists at outlets such as the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, New Yorker, and BuzzFeed are among the more than 2,000 workers that have organized since 2015. In the face of a consolidating industry increasingly run by hedge funds and private equity firms, workers are demanding fair pay, job security, and the preservation of
quality journalism.

These workers are organizing with The NewsGuild, a sector of the Communications Workers of America (CWA), a dynamic, member-led union that is building a movement for social and economic justice.
