Dec. 18, 2019 – The staff of the Southern Poverty Law Center won union recognition by a vote of 142-45 on Dec. 16, racking up an important victory for labor organizing in the south. The bargaining unit will encompass staffers across 11 SPLC offices in five states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi) and Washington D.C. Staff of NBC News Digital Win Union by a Vote of 90-40

NewsGuild of New York certified as bargaining representative of 150 employees at the digital news division

Dec. 13, 2019 – New York — Editorial employees of NBC News Digital won certification of their union after a vote count at the National Labor Relations Board in Manhattan Friday afternoon. With the winning vote of 90-40, the 150-person staff joins the NewsGuild of New York, TNG-CWA Local 31003. The new bargaining unit includes reporters, video journalists, editors, social media strategists, designers, and editorial staff from nbcnews.com, today.com, StayTuned, msnbc.com, and NBC News Now. Los Angeles Times Data Reporter Jon Schleuss Wins Re-Run of NewsGuild-CWA International Election

Following a historic re-run of the national election, Schleuss wins 4-year term for NewsGuild-CWA International President by a 465 vote margin/ 1,979 to 1,514.

Ballot count set to begin

Dec. 10, 2019 – Approximately 3,527 ballots will be counted in the election of NewsGuild-CWA president, the American Arbitration Association has reported. A total of 3,597 were received, but 70 have been set aside because of questions of eligibility.

On Latina Equal Pay Day, NewsGuild members demand fairness

Nov. 22, 2019 – Members of The NewsGuild-CWA called out the nation’s media executives and other “masters of the universe” on Nov. 20, demanding equal pay for Latinas and other women and people of color. Designated Latina Equal Pay Day, the date symbolizes the fact that, on average, Latinas must work 11 months into 2019 to catch up to what white men earned by the end of 2018.
