They all bear the Guild’s new unblinking eye logo, which symbolizes the watchdog role journalists and activists play in protecting our democracy and holding power to account.

Jan. 31, 2022 – Staffers at the Financial Times US bureaus are forming a union, becoming the latest group of workers to join the surge in organizing among media employees. They will join the News Media Guild, which also represents employees of the Associated Press, Guardian US and others.

An election to formalize the union of 600 New York Times tech workers began Monday as the National Labor Relations Board mailed ballots to eligible employees. It is a historic milestone in a campaign where workers have fought for recognition since first announcing that they had formed a union last April. Ballots will be counted between February 28 and March 7.

Staff members of Justice at Work Pennsylvania, a legal aid nonprofit that supports low-wage workers, announced Thursday that they are unionizing with The NewsGuild. They will become part of The NewsGuild of Greater Philadelphia Local 38010.

NEW YORK — Sports Illustrated Union, which represents 94 workers across the sports publication, voted unanimously to ratify their first contract with Sports Illustrated management and The Arena Group on Jan. 20. The deal was finalized on Dec. 31, 2021.
Two years after forming the Sports Illustrated Union, negotiators have agreed on a tentative agreement with management and the publisher, the Arena Group. They are the second unit of the New York NewsGuild to announce details of a first contract in two days, following the workers of New York magazine.
