March 2, 2018 – The NewsGuild-CWA, which represents workers at 12 Digital First Media newspapers, is urging Duke University to sever its ties to hedge fund president Heath Freeman, saying Freeman’s donations “directly contradict” the mission of Duke, home to one of the nation’s most prominent research centers for media and democracy. Bargaining & Settlements – Bytes & bits: Chicago Reader Staff Makes Big Gains

Feb. 22, 2018 – Employees of the Chicago Reader unanimously ratified a one-year contract in October, resolving a lengthy labor dispute that began under its previous owner, Tronc. The members of the Chicago News Guild reached the deal with the labor-friendly investor group that purchased the Reader and the Chicago Sun-Times in July.
