Philadelphia NewsGuild touts ‘significant progress’ in reducing gender pay gap; still far to go in newsroom diversity
March 19, 2019 – The NewsGuild of Greater Philadelphia reports the local has made significant progress in closing a gender-based pay gap at the city’s three major publications over the last three years and says union members are determined to eliminate the gap entirely. The local is also committed to closing a race-based pay gap and increasing diversity in the newsroom. It’s in the Data: L.A. Times Guild Finds Women and People of Color Are Underpaid
April 13, 2018 – Tronc, the current owner of the Los Angeles Times, has paid women and journalists of color thousands of dollars less per year than their counterparts, suggesting systemic salary gaps by race and gender, according to an analysis of data by the L.A. Times Guild.

Why Are News Organizations Paying Women, Minorities Less?
September 2017 – Study after study initiated by NewsGuild-CWA locals at some of the nation’s most prestigious newsrooms have reached the same conclusion: Women and minorities are getting paid less than their white, male counterparts. And it means every local has an obligation to request data from media employers about the gender, racial identity, disabilities and pay of employees as they prepare for contract negotiations, President Bernie Lunzer said.
