Following a historic re-run of the national election, Schleuss wins 4-year term for NewsGuild-CWA International President by a 465 vote margin/ 1,979 to 1,514.

NEW YORK — Jon Schleuss, a data and graphics reporter at the Los Angeles Times, was elected International President of the NewsGuild-CWA on Tuesday, defeating 12-year incumbent Bernie Lunzer after running on a platform to reform and modernize North America’s largest labor union for journalists. Ballot count set to begin

Dec. 10, 2019 – Approximately 3,527 ballots will be counted in the election of NewsGuild-CWA president, the American Arbitration Association has reported. A total of 3,597 were received, but 70 have been set aside because of questions of eligibility.

Oct. 23, 2019 – The NewsGuild-CWA will sponsor a debate between the two candidates in the election for president at 6:30 p.m. EDT, Saturday, Oct. 26. Sheila Lindsay Steps Down, Nominations Open for Region 2 VP

Sept. 27, 2019 – NewsGuild Region 2 Vice President Sheila Lindsay stepped down from the Executive Council Sept. 20, following her resignation from employment with the American Nurses Association.

“The Executive Council joins the Guild membership in thanking Sheila for her dedicated and thoughtful service as a vice president of the national union, as president of her local and as a diligent representative of her home unit,” Executive Vice President Marian Needham wrote in a memo to local officers.

In accordance with the Guild Constitution, Region 2 locals may nominate members to fill the vacant position, Needham announced. Executive Council Responses to Candidate’s Election Questions

Aug. 16, 2019 – The Sector Election and Referendum Committee referred to the Executive Council three questions posed by a candidate regarding eligibility to vote in the Guild’s pending presidential election. The Executive Council takes up these questions as an exercise of the responsibility assigned to it under Article IX, Section 9 of the Guild Constitution.

These questions and the EC’s answers may assist other members in understanding the voting requirements, so this exchange is offered to help members fully understand their dues obligations with regard to enfranchisement in the re-run election.
