BETHESDA, Md. — The unionized 50-member staff of Education Week, a national nonprofit news organization, voted overwhelmingly in December to ratify its first collective bargaining agreement with management, joining a growing list of nonprofit media organizations nationwide with strong union contracts.

Public Library of Science workers reach first union contract

After a year and a half of negotiations, workers at the Public Library of Science (PLOS) have reached a tentative agreement on their first collective bargaining agreement, marking a major milestone for the academic publishing sector. Once ratified, the contract will lock in wage increases, just cause protections, job security language and a voice in how the nonprofit operates.

Workers at Autistic Self Advocacy Network seek voluntary recognition

On Wednesday, workers at the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, a nonprofit run by and for autistic people, announced their intent to unionize as the Autistic Self Advocacy Union. All 14 workers requested voluntary recognition to join the Pacific Media Workers Guild, TNG-CWA Local 39521.

Organizing staff at United Academics of Philadelphia ratify first contract

About half a dozen organizers at the United Academics of Philadelphia (UAP), American Federation of Teachers Local 9608, ratified their first collective bargaining agreement in December after winning voluntary recognition in July 2023. The staff unionized with The NewsGuild of Greater Philadelphia.
