EdSource staff announce newsroom union drive

OAKLAND, CA – The staff of EdSource, the award-winning nonprofit journalism outlet covering education in California, announced today that they are forming a union to maintain their organization’s relentless drive for critical journalism, while building an inclusive and equitable newsroom.

Workers at Autistic Self Advocacy Network seek voluntary recognition

On Wednesday, workers at the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, a nonprofit run by and for autistic people, announced their intent to unionize as the Autistic Self Advocacy Union. All 14 workers requested voluntary recognition to join the Pacific Media Workers Guild, TNG-CWA Local 39521.

Organizing staff at United Academics of Philadelphia ratify first contract

About half a dozen organizers at the United Academics of Philadelphia (UAP), American Federation of Teachers Local 9608, ratified their first collective bargaining agreement in December after winning voluntary recognition in July 2023. The staff unionized with The NewsGuild of Greater Philadelphia.

BANGOR, Maine — After three days of voting, 89 percent of BDN Union members unanimously voted to accept the terms of their first two-year contract. The union’s Bargaining Committee reached a tentative agreement with Bangor Daily News Management on Oct. 2.

RACINE, Wis. — Journalists at The Journal Times newspaper in Racine, Wisconsin, today announced plans to unionize together as the Racine NewsGuild, seeking a partnership with the newspaper’s ownership to protect quality local journalism and to demonstrate a joint commitment to improving services in the Racine area.
