Crosscut Workers Vote Unanimously to Unionize

July 31, 2019 – Newsroom employees at Crosscut and KCTS 9, part of Cascade Public Media in Seattle, voted 16-0 to unionize with the Pacific Northwest Newspaper Guild, Local 37082 of The NewsGuild-CWA.

Finally! BuzzFeed News Union wins voluntary recognition

July 24, 2019 – More than five months after announcing their union drive, the journalists of BuzzFeed News officially won recognition of their union, the NewsGuild of New York has announced. A neutral party verified that a majority of staffers elected to be represented by The NewsGuild-CWA after reviewing cards signed by more than 90 percent of eligible employees. Workers at Three Digital Publications Win Union Recognition

May 22, 2019 – The NewsGuild-CWA had a banner day on May 21, when three digital publications organized by the New York Local won voluntary union recognition.

TIME digital staff requests voluntary union recognition; seeks to end ‘digital divide’

April 25, 2019 – Digital employees of TIME requested voluntary union recognition April 25, seeking union protection and equity with the magazine’s print employees. Although the publication has been represented by the New York local of The NewsGuild-CWA for nearly 80 years, the former owners of Time Inc. maintained an antiquated divide to keep employees they identified as “digital” out of the bargaining unit.
