Journalists of The Desert Sun voted overwhelmingly in favor of unionizing as part of The NewsGuild-CWA on Wednesday, in mail-in balloting that was supervised by the National Labor Relations Board. They will join the Media Guild of the West local.

Editorial employees at three Gannett publications are standing together to fight for local news and address long-standing newsroom issues.
Journalists at three Gannett-owned New Jersey publications — the Bergen Record, the Daily Record and the NJ Herald — announced that they are unionizing with the NewsGuild of New York local on Wednesday. With nearly 90% of eligible staffers signed on, the Record Guild has requested voluntary recognition from management.

New York City’s hometown paper is forming a union. The editorial staffers of the New York Daily News announced Friday that they are organizing with NewsGuild of New York. More than 80% of eligible staff are standing together to request voluntary recognition from Tribune Publishing, the News’ parent company.
