The New York Daily News is unionizing

Employees seek to safeguard the News’ future by advocating for job security, equity, and a more inclusive and diverse newsroom. 

New York City’s hometown paper is forming a union. The editorial staffers of the New York Daily News announced Friday that they are organizing with NewsGuild of New York. More than 80% of eligible staff are standing together to request voluntary recognition from Tribune Publishing, the News’ parent company.

Journalists at four Washington state papers: We’re unionizing

Update: Workers at four Washington state newspapers won voluntary recognition of their union, the Washington State News Guild, on Feb. 25.  

“The recognition comes following Wednesday’s decision from the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) supporting the formation of all four newsrooms, The News Tribune in Tacoma, The Olympian, The Bellingham Herald, and the Tri-City Herald, into one union,” the unit wrote

It’s official! Verso workers win union recognition

It’s official! The workers of Verso Books have won voluntary union recognition from management of the publishing house after an arbitrator certified on Dec. 8 that a majority of employees in the unit had signed cards indicating support for joining the Washington-Baltimore Local of The NewsGuild-CWA. Management had agreed in principle to grant voluntary recognition late last month.
