Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh Slams Post-Gazette Editorial

Jan. 18, 2018 – The Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh has taken the unusual step of slamming an editorial that appeared in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Martin Luther King Day.

“As a matter of course, the Guild does not weigh in on editorial positions, but this piece is so extraordinary in its mindless, sycophantic embrace of racist values and outright bigotry espoused by this country’s President that we would be morally, journalistically, and humanly remiss not to speak out against it,” the local wrote in a Jan. 16 letter to the editor. Ballot Counting Set for Jan. 19 in L.A. Times Union Vote

Jan. 5, 2018 – After 136 years in business, the Los Angeles Times saw its first union election on Jan. 4, with more than 200 employees voting. Bureau of Immigration Appeals Will Reconsider Request for Asylum of Mexican Journalist

Dec. 29, 2017 – The U.S. Board of Immigration Appeals has agreed to reconsider the asylum petition of Emilio Gutierrez, a Mexican journalist who faces near-certain death if he is forced to return to Mexico. The decision follows a campaign by more than 20 press freedom organizations, including The NewsGuild-CWA, supporting his request for asylum. Lambda Legal Employees: ‘We Did It’


Dec. 29, 2017 – Employees at Lambda Legal voted 42-8 on Dec. 29 in favor of forming a union at the nation’s oldest and largest legal organization that fights for the civil rights of LGBTQ people and people living with HIV. Eligible staff in all six regional offices, including lawyers, fundraisers, communication and administrative and support staff will be members of The NewsGuild-CWA as part of the Washington-Baltimore News Guild Local.
