Newsletter: Our strikers day in court

I’m heading to Pittsburgh next week for our strikers’ day in court. After 28 months on strike the National Labor Relations Board is pushing for an injunction against the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette for violating U.S. labor law. Our case will be heard on Wednesday afternoon in the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals after winding through the NLRB’s process.

Metro Caring workers win union election in landslide

The staff at Denver-based anti-hunger nonprofit, Metro Caring, won a landslide 15-2 union victory in their election last week. The win comes after a supermajority of workers signed union authorization cards last year and requested voluntary recognition from management.

Newsletter: The U.S. Senate has a chance to pass the bi-partisan PRESS Act

The U.S. Senate has a chance to pass the bi-partisan PRESS Act, a bill that would protect journalists and sources from government overreach. The legislation would create protections that already exist in almost every U.S. state. It would protect against future administrations intimidating whistleblowers and journalists and increase protections already provided in the First Amendment.

Metro Caring staff at anti-hunger nonprofit in Denver form union

A supermajority of eligible staff at Metro Caring, a Denver-based anti-hunger nonprofit, formed a union and sought voluntary recognition last week. Workers are organizing with the Denver Newspaper Guild, TNG-CWA Local 37074. 

A supermajority of workers signed union authorization cards, forming Metro Caring Workers United, and asked nonprofit management for voluntary recognition by December 12.
