Staff of Hoy Los Angeles Joins L.A. Times Guild

Dec. 17, 2018 – Management of the Los Angeles Times has agreed to add the journalists of Hoy Los Angeles to the ranks of the Los Angeles Times Guild, the local announced on Dec. 17.

The staff of the Spanish-language paper petitioned the L.A. Times for union recognition as part of the local on Nov. 28.

Employees of Hoy Los Angeles develop and translate content, manage social media channels, and create photography and video for Hoy and for the Los Angeles Times en Español. They are paid by the L.A. Times.

The employees of the Los Angeles Times made history in January 2018, when they voted 248-44 to join The NewsGuild-CWA, ending 136years of unfettered rule by management.

Less than three weeks after the vote, management sold the paper to Los Angeles-based billionaire physician Patrick Soon-Shiong.
