Retirees: What My Union Can Do for Me

By Myra Kreiman

Feb. 22, 2018 – President John Kennedy’s axiom, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your county,” applies to union members.

As active employees, we were called to support our union brothers and sisters. When we retired, the adjusted axiom became, “What can my union do for me?”

Through its Retired Members Council, The NewsGuild-CWA offers us lifetime union membership. You can be active in the RMC as an individual or form a chapter with your former coworkers. The cost is minimal (a $25 lifetime fee) and the benefits are huge!

When you join, you get an RMC-CWA union card and membership in Union Plus, which offers great discounts on cell phone plans, pet insurance, travel and more. Union Plus recently partnered with eHealthMedicare, an insurance broker that specializes in the Medicare insurance needs of union retirees — a free service with no obligation to enroll.

Many of us can’t imagine not working, either for financial reasons or intellectual engagement. But none of us can imagine getting by without Social Security or Medicare. As a member of the RMC you join more than 55,000 retired CWA members who share one purpose: protecting retiree benefits.

We in the Media Sector of the RMC can help you navigate the transition to retirement and help you get answers to questions about your pensions, health coverage, education and training opportunities.

So, what are you waiting for? Join us today!
