The 2023 Nominating Conference will convene at 12 p.m. ET Saturday, January 7 on Zoom. Delegates to the conference will nominate candidates for the positions of Sector Chairperson, President, Executive Vice President and 6 Regional Vice Presidents.
The NewsGuild Executive Council met Thursday and proposed an agenda and rules for the conference that will be voted on by the delegates.
The proposed conference rules provide:
- Any candidate unopposed at the Conference will be elected by acclamation and will be provided an opportunity to make a 2-minute acceptance speech.
- Any candidate running in a contested race, including non-delegates, will also have a chance to speak for two minutes during the Conference. Contested elections will be resolved by a secret ballot mail referendum following the Conference. Anyone who will be nominated for office, but not a registered delegate, should contact SERC@newsguild.org to get an invitation to the conference.
- All nominees must declare in writing their willingness to serve prior to the close of the Conference or shall be automatically disqualified from candidacy. Acceptance of nominations should be emailed to SERC@newsguild.org.
- The conference will be live-streamed on newsguild.org and facebook.com/newsguild.
Delegates should review this guide for participating in the videoconference. Locals can still register using the Sector Conference On-Line Registration (SCOR) system. Instructions for the registration system were emailed to local officers and staff. Contact Executive Vice President Marian Needham at mneedham@cwa-union.org for more information.
