NewsGuild Election Committee to Begin Vote Count May 13th

The following statement was issued by Scott Edmonds, Chairman of the NewsGuild/CWA Sector Election and Referendum Committee.

May 10, 2019 – “The election to determine who will be president of the NewsGuild/CWA is entering its final phase, which will conclude sometime next week.

“More than 16,000 notices about the election, followed by ballots, have been mailed to all eligible voters in the United States and Canada.

“The candidates have run their individual campaigns and met personally with many Guild members in Canada and the United States to seek support.

“The final collection of ballots from the post office box in Washington, D.C., will take place Monday, May 13. No ballot received after that date will be counted.

“The members of the democratically elected Sector Election and Referendum Committee will then gather to count the votes in a process that will commence Monday and continue in the following days until it is complete.

“The results will then be communicated to locals and posted on the Guild website and social media accounts.

“I personally want to thank Guild election committee members and alternates who agreed to stand for election at the last Sector Conference.

“These volunteers from two countries and many locals have devoted a significant amount of their time over the last few months to ensure the election was carried out according to the rules in the Guild Constitution, in a fair and equitable manner, and that all entitled to vote were given an opportunity to do so.

“I would also like to thank those staff members and officers who have assisted the committee in doing its important work.”
