June 5, 2017 – SOS International, the company that provides interpreting services for federal immigration courts, illegally misclassified its employees as independent contractors and fired interpreters who spoke out, according to a complaint filed by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) on May 31. The interpreter and translator professions are not new, yet inconsistent industry standards have been developed by those who employ us to determine the best skill level for the work that we do. Since 1981, as NewsGuild members, we have fought to raise the standards for our work.
