WASHINGTON — Today, workers at the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) announced the formation of their union, “EDF Together,” which will represent nearly 500 workers. They are proud to have submitted a supermajority of union authorization cards from union-eligible staff and hope to receive voluntary recognition from EDF’s Executive Management Team, following in the footsteps of close partners Natural Resources Defense Council Union, League of Conservation Voters Union, and thousands of other workers represented by the Washington-Baltimore News Guild.

POLITICO journalists win landmark arbitration on AI protections

WASHINGTON — Unionized journalists at POLITICO and E&E News (PEN Guild) announced today a major victory in their arbitration case against POLITICO management over the company’s unilateral introduction of artificial intelligence tools that bypassed negotiated safeguards and undermined core journalistic standards.

In a detailed decision, the arbitrator found POLITICO violated the collective bargaining agreement when it launched two AI-driven products — a “Live Summaries” feature used during the 2024 Democratic National Convention and Vice Presidential Debate, and the Capitol AI Report-Builder tool for POLITICO Pro subscribers — without providing required notice, bargaining, or human oversight, as required by the contract.

WASHINGTON – Journalists at The Hill, represented by the Washington-Baltimore NewsGuild, have voted 46-1 to ratify their first collective bargaining agreement with Nexstar Media Group, Inc., securing increases in pay, vacation time and family leave.

Workers at Equis Research Announce Unionization Campaign

The workers of Equis Research announced their intention to form a union. Equis is an organization that seeks to increase Latino political power and wellbeing through top-of-the-line research on Latino voters, as well as long-term cultural and political initiatives. The workers hope to ensure that the mission of wellbeing and empowerment also extends to them—the very individuals responsible for bringing Equis’ mission to life.

ACLU Southern Affiliates

ACLU’s southern affiliates announce plan to unionize

Today, staff at the ACLU of Kentucky, ACLU of Louisiana, and ACLU of Mississippi joined over a hundred fellow ACLU workers in organizing a union. Collectively known as ACLU Southern Affiliates United, workers at the three ACLU affiliates have organized with the Washington-Baltimore News Guild (WBNG) and are requesting joint recognition from their employer. Their announcement follows ACLU-D.C. Staff United, who just last week requested recognition of their union with WBNG.
