The CWA and NewsGuild announced Thursday that the 2021 CWA Convention and NewsGuild Sector Conference will be held virtually rather than in person.
Guild officers are still working out logistics for the online meeting, but are asking union members to continue to hold Oct. 16 for the Sector Conference.
“We are happy to see this update out of concern for the safety of all CWA and NewsGuild members,” President Jon Schleuss and Executive Vice President Marian Needham wrote in an email to local officers announcing the change in plans.
Because of the change in format, parts of the program will be shortened to reduce the amount of time participants will have to sit in front of a computer and to make the meeting as productive as possible. Details will be announced as soon as arrangements are finalized.
“We were excited to gather the Guild in person, however, your safety is paramount. We’ll send more information soon.”
