Kathy Zhang is the winner of the NewsGuild’s union drip contest with the entry below. We asked Guild members to post their best union look on Twitter and tell us why they’re proud to be a member. We pulled the tweets and used a random number generator to select the winner.
Love wearing my 2x union-made Guild tee (@ufcw1546 shirt + @NYTGuildTech screen printing) for our first bargaining session and again today for the NYC Labor Day Parade & March!

I’m a proud @newsguild member because I love building collective power and rocking union looks 😎✊🏽 https://t.co/LadEqOOrTO pic.twitter.com/6IbFKwppcy
Given a choice between a Guild-branded hoodie and jacket, Kathy opted for the leather jacket. (It’s modeled above by NewsGuild-CWA President Jon Schleuss.) You can shop for union swag here.
Kathy was instrumental in organizing the New York Times Tech Guild, the biggest union of tech workers with bargaining rights in the U.S.
There were more than two dozen entries, each showing solidarity, pride and determination. A sampling is below. Thanks to all for participating!
Wearing my CMG hoodie in solidarity with my @newsguild members. I love being in a union to ensure we have safe and healthy workplaces. pic.twitter.com/TmutcqnVW1

Heard it’s Labor WEEK this year, not Labor Day, and @gaufre & @newsguild want to see my best union ‘fit to celebrate… The solidarity necklace is a crowd favorite. pic.twitter.com/WgoOwiE9R3

Only one in the office on a Saturday, which means I can use as many monitors as I want and listen to interviews at max volume! Also, check out the @newsguild hoodie pic.twitter.com/1HKLoR9Gb2
