The CWA announced on Tuesday that its 2021 Convention has been rescheduled for Oct. 18-19, 2021, which means that The NewsGuild’s Sector Conference will take place on Oct. 15-16, Guild Executive Vice President Marian Needham reports.
“As CWA Secretary-Treasurer Sara Steffens observed, the date change ‘is our best available route to offer an in-person meeting while protecting the safety of everyone’ who will attend,” Needham said.
Additional information on both meetings will be distributed as it becomes available.
“Our CWA Executive Board remains hopeful that public health indicators and vaccination rates will improve enough to allow for an in-person meeting this fall,” Steffens said in an email to local leaders across all of the union’s sectors.
The CWA convention will be held at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. The union’s hotel block will open later this summer, after an official call for the convention has been issued.
“Given the unpredictable nature of the pandemic, please be sure any travel you plan can be refunded or rescheduled,” Steffens wrote.
“Also please keep in mind that like any other entity, our union remains subject to local, state and federal public health directives, both as a meeting sponsor and as an employer. Our rescheduled CWA Convention will follow whatever safety rules and regulations are in place (in addition to our own protocols) in October 2021.”
See you in New Orleans in the fall!
