490 days after he was unjustly detained by Russian authorities, Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich is finally coming home.

Throughout Evan’s unjust detention, members of IAPE TNG-CWA Local 1096, Dow Jones employees, and supporters everywhere changed their social media avatars and members distributed “Free Evan Now” buttons as fast as IAPE could deliver them to show support for Evan and press freedom.

Prism Workers United unionizes with Pacific Media Workers Guild

Update: Prism leadership voluntarily recognized Prism Workers United on 7/31

The workers at the nonprofit newsroom Prism Reports announced today they are unionizing. In forming Prism Workers United, workers seek a seat at the table in shaping what a fair, equitable, and compassionate workplace can be.

South Florida Sun Sentinel workers win union election by unanimous landslide

Deerfield Beach, FLORIDA – A supermajority of employees at the South Florida Sun Sentinel voted Monday to form a union to fight for stronger job protections, better pay and benefits, and a louder voice in newsroom decisions.

Deal reached for unionized Oxford University Press staff, would raise wages 22% for lowest-paid

Unionized workers at Oxford University Press USA reached a tentative agreement Thursday on a historic first contract that would dramatically raise worker pay, establish job security, and create other important workplace rights at the world’s largest academic publishing house, union officials said.

  • A strong union is built through strong one-on-one connections between rank-and-file workers. 
  • Chart and map out workplaces. Really understand worker sentiment. 
  • Build structure tests.
  • Open up bargaining.
  • Escalate to super majority collective actions, including strikes.

The Palm Beach and Southwest Florida News Guild Reach Tentative Agreement With Gannett

The Palm Beach and Southwest Florida News Guild have reached a tentative agreement for their first collective bargaining agreement with Gannett after nearly four years of negotiations. The agreements will benefit workers at The Palm Beach Post, The Palm Beach Daily News, The News-Press and The Naples Daily News.
