Buffalo Members Bring the Heat to Bargaining

“Respect is a two-way street, isn’t it?”

– Sandy Tan
Buffalo Newspaper Guild President

Buffalo Guild members rallied outside The News, demanding a fair contract.

The rally was one of several recent mobilization events to demonstrate the members objections to the News proposal on health care. The proposal would shift health care costs to the employees, who have not had a raise in seven years.

Henry Davis, whose tenure as Guild president ended with the close of 2016 said, “You’ve gone seven years without a raise. You’ve done everything you can to control health care costs for this company. You’ve gone out of your way to help them operationally.”

Sandy Tan, who became Guild president on Jan. 1, also red up the members.

“We respect and acknowledge the fact that The News faces challenges ahead, and we support the fact that The News needs to remain pro table to move forward into the future,” Tan said.

“Respect is a two-way street, isn’t it? So what are we going to fight for from here on out?”

“Respect!” Guild members answered.
