Resolution 2023: Promoting Gender Neutral Language in the Guild

There’s a growing awareness of the limitation of two genders and binary pronouns. Hundreds of NewsGuild-CWA members identify as nonbinary or transgender and the Guild Constitution prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, family relationship, marital or parental status, sexual or affectional orientation or gender identity. 

Many locals of The NewsGuild-CWA have already removed binary language from their bylaws and collective bargaining agreements and promote members to use their pronouns in all spaces. 

Resolved

That leaders and members of The NewsGuild-CWA will work to promote the use of gender neutral language in governing documents, collective bargaining agreements and all union materials.
