Colombian Hunger Strikers: 'We Are Prepared to Die'
Former General Motors workers in Colombia are so desperate to get the world to pay attention to the plight of current workers at the plant that they have sewn their mouths shut to show how serious their hunger strike is. They say GM has fired injured workers, refused to provide compensation for injuries and erased medical records. "We are now prepared to die because this situation is critical," Jorge Parra says in muffled tones through his stitched mouth. "General Motors has given us no choice." Three workers with their mouths shown shut are pictured in this photo from the Association of Injured Workers and Ex-Workers of Colmotores.
