Subcommittees of the New York Guild and Times bargaining teams, charged with trying to resolve differences over the pension plan, explored possible solutions May 10 that would reconcile corporate management’s concerns about risk and volatility with the Guild's demand to continue a defined pension plan that provides adequate retirement payments for life.
