AP Summer Intern Found Dead in Mexico City Elevator Shaft
Armando Montanto, a 22-year-old Colorado Springs resident who was interning with The Associated Press in Mexico City, was found dead Saturday in the elevator shaft of a building near where he lived. Mexican authorities are investigating the circumstances of his death, which has left friends and colleagues devastated. "Armando was a smart, joyful, hardworking and talented young man,” said Marjorie Miller, AP’s Latin America editor based in Mexico City. "He absolutely loved journalism and was soaking up everything he could. In his short time with the AP, he won his way into everyone’s hearts with his hard work, his effervescence and his love of the profession.” Also see Poynter for a wrap of coverage.
